We get take-out from here sometimes when it's special days for haddock. I don't personally mind the Halibut House franchise, but I do find the fries can be dry and cardboard-like tasting, even less desirable when they give too many of them when they don't taste that great. The fish is fried nicely though. Also, you can tell when fresh oil has been used vs non-fresh oil that's been overused. Most of the time though it has been fresh. Overall, average fish and chips quality certainly not the best but not the worst.
This was an unfortunate terrible experience that lacked an appropriate professional business-like response from the Restaurant. If you received your order, a plate of food plus pulling out a surprise long piece of hair was truly unacceptable and disgusting. We told the waitress about this experience, so she took off the least priced item which were drinks off the bill. We were appalled by the waitress’s response. The response from this restaurant should have been, your order is on the house and we hope to keep you as a happy customer in the future. Here is a free voucher for your next visit. A professional chef would have cared enough to oversee that everything is up to high expectations and standards before anything is brought to the diners.
My wife and I visited this Halibut Fish & Chips location in Ajax, expecting a pleasant meal. Instead, we were met with blatant disrespect from the blonde waitress. When we said hello, she gave us a dirty look, then stared at my wife and started biting her teeth in a clearly hostile and judgmental way. This kind of unprofessional and discriminatory attitude has no place in a public business, especially one that serves a diverse community like Ajax. We left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses their staff’s behavior, because no one deserves to be treated like this based on how they dress or what they believe.
Not sure what's going on with the takeout portion compare to dine in because this can't be right, the portion for take out is insanely small for calamari
Clean restuarant, good food and friendly staff! I've been to this location a number of times and I've never been disappointed. Good portions, tasty food at reasonable prices. Krista is one of the best servers around. She is friendly, attentive and personable. Halibut House is lucky to have her in their employ.
I ordered take out today and they forgot gravy and coleslaw with my 2 piece halibut and fries. I called and the girl said I wasn't charged for it anyways. Ummm $42.18 for take out plus a $5.00 tip and you can't even ensure you fill the order correctly. The place was empty with only one table of 2 people. Complete waste of money.
I’ve been here multiple occasions because I enjoy the food, but my recent experience was disappointing. I ordered a fish burger and specifically asked if how much it was cost to add a fish on the side , which she said it would be $4 more. I have double confirmed asking if it would be $18 which she has confirmed . When the bill arrived, I was shocked to see a much higher charge. The pricing was not clearly communicated, and for that amount, I could have opted for an all-you-can-eat option elsewhere. Won’t be coming back here .
