The librarians are so nice and pleasant at this location! Selection is a touch limited cuz its a smaller library but still lots of cool stuff you can do
I’m writing to share a concern about my last two visits to the Macleans Ajax Library. On both occasions, two different staff members made comments about my 6-year-old autistic son clapping too loudly. My son claps when he’s happy or excited.During one visit, I explained that he is autistic, but the employee continued to focus on how his clapping was “too loud” and echoed. This response was not only insensitive but also very upsetting, as it made us feel unwelcome in a public space meant to serve the entire community—including children with disabilities.While I understand the need for a calm environment, I hope the library can take steps to ensure staff are better trained in how to interact with neurodivergent individuals with empathy and understanding. We love visiting the library, and I truly don’t want to stop bringing my son. But if he continues to be treated unfairly, we may have no choice but to stop coming—something I hope we can avoid. I sincerely hope the library will consider additional staff training on autism and inclusion so that families like mine can feel supported, not judged.
The McLean Community Centre in Ajax is a comprehensive facility offering a wide range of services and amenities for all ages. It features rental spaces such as the Community Hall and Community Rooms, a Fitness & Health Centre, a fully equipped fitness room, and a gymnasium. The centre also boasts a 25-metre indoor leisure pool, a tot pool, a 170-foot water slide, a sauna, a hot tub, and well-maintained change rooms. Additionally, the facility includes a Preschool Room, a dedicated Youth Space, and serves as the home of the Community Art Exhibition and the Ajax McLean Library Branch. Outdoors, visitors can enjoy a skateboard park, a splash pad, a fenced dog park, and baseball diamonds. The space is well-maintained and offers a welcoming environment for sports, relaxation, and community activities. While some services require a monthly or annual membership, they are well worth it due to their excellent quality and variety.
Lauren, not quite if you hate your job or had a bad day or any of the above. Just know you get paid to work here would appreciate it if you be so kind and get yourself up from the chair that you sit in all day long and assist someone when they require you to help them. I’m not sure who the manger of this library is or who exactly hired you. You need to find a job that you love to work for not somewhere where you look so damn miserable. Be happy !!! My very first & very last time coming to this library especially if I know ur grumpy face is sitting on that chair.
McLean's is a great community centre. In the summer it offers many activities and amenities for children and adults. The outdoor skate park is used by younger and older kids and the water park is a huge hit on hot summer days. In the winter they offer many indoor activities as well as have the huge indoor pool with plenty of public swim hours available. There is even a branch of the Ajax Public Library inside.
People here are really nice, but the library is so small and filled with kids. It's more like a day care. I spend a lot of time here but I can't give it more than 2 or 3 stars.
